AUTHOR GUIDELINES

AGING AND SOCIETY 

The Aging and Society Journal has been published since 2014. Since 2018, it has developed its scope and become an international peer-reviewed journal. All articles in the journal are subject to the peer review process. The Journal is published in print and electronically.

Purpose and Scope

The Aging and Society Journal aims to inform the society about aging by considering the  social dimensions of aging in detail with a holistic approach. For this purpose, it aims to publish academic studies and provide a platform for scientific discussions as to the problems in this field.

The Aging and Society  Journal will be published twice a year from 2022. The Journal publishes manuscripts in Turkish and English. However, it is also possible to publish manuscripts that are written either partially or fully in other languages.

PUBLICATION RULES

The Aging and Society Journal primarily publishes research articles but also covers reviews, reports and interviews.

No articles that are already published elsewhere should be submitted to the Journal except for translated manuscripts. All responsibility for the published articles belongs to the author(s) of the article. 

Should the article include quotations, tables, pictures, etc. which have been previously published, the author must obtain written permission from the copyright owner/authors and state this in the article. If previously used studies such as presentations, papers and abstracts in scientific meetings are being adapted into articles, they must be acknowledged in the article. The articles in Turkish should be based on the Dictionary of the Turkish Language Association or http://www.tdk.org.tr and the glossary of terms in the  relevant field of  study. 

The publication rights of the approved manuscript belong to the Journal. No royalties are paid to author(s). All published articles in the Aging and Society  Journal are open access for the use of the general public.

The following is required from the author of the article:

  • Title page 
  • Main text of the article including Turkish-English abstract, references
  • Ethics committee approval for research articles
  • Similarity Report
  • A copyright transfer form signed by the author/authors

 Order of title page

1.Article Title:  Turkish and English title 

2.Author name(s) (left aligned)

3.The name of the translator (right aligned)

4.Contact details of the author(s) (work address, telephone, email)

5.ORCİD numbers of the author(s) 

6.  A conflict of interest between the authors should be stated, if there is any. 

The text of the article should be in concordance with the following writing rules:   

The article must be submitted initially anonymously. No descriptive details about the authors, such as the institution they work for, should be included in the main text file. 

Manuscripts are to be submitted in Microsoft Word or a Word-compatible file formats. All short articles (excluding references) submitted to the journal should be at least 1500 -2000 words and research articles should not exceed 5000 words.

Page layout

  • Margin should be 2.5 cm for each page.
  • No syllables division at the end of the line and the text should be distributed evenly between the margins. 
  • Page numbers should be written with Times News Roman 12-point font at the bottom of the page aligned to the right. 

1. All words of Turkish title of the article should be written in capital letters, bold and left aligned.

2.Turkish – English Abstract should not exceed 250 words and be written with Times News Roman 10-point font in italic, single-spaced, keywords (minimum three and maximum five) should be specified. 

3.Research articles should consist of Abstract, Summary, Introduction, Material and Methodology, Results and Discussion, Conclusion and Suggestions, References.

4.The main section and subsection headings should be written left aligned. 

• All headings including the main and subsection headings, should be in bold 12-point font.

• The main section headings   should be in capital letters including the conjunctions and the headings in the subsections should have an initial capital letter each word except the conjunctions.

• Sub-headings can be numbered if required.

• If there are unnumbered subheadings, they should be in bold italics 12 point font and on the left side of the page.

5. The main text should be written in Times New Roman (12 points, 1.5 spacing). Paragraphs should be left aligned, no indentation, line spacing before and after should be 6 points.

6. One character space must be left after punctuation marks.

7.Tables and figures should be placed in the text following the explanation and be between the margins. Numbering and explanation should be centered below the figures, and left aligned above the tables. Table and Figure titles should be in bold 12 points font.

In addition to the writing rules listed above for approved articles:

The article should start from the second page and research articles should consist of Summary, Abstract, Introduction, Material and Methodology, Results and Discussion, Conclusion and Suggestions, References.

  2. The Turkish title of the article, name of the author, orcid number, explanations should be given as follows:
  • The information about the author with * symbol at the bottom of the page as a footnote.
  • Explanation and contact information about the translator, if any, with ** symbol at the bottom of the page as a footnote.
  • Explanation about the article, if any, with *** symbol at the bottom of the page as a footnote.

References and Citations

Citations and quotations should follow the seventh edition of the APA Publication Manual. Footnotes and references should be in line with the standards, and if secondary citations are used, the original citation should also be specified. In-text citations should include the surname of the author with the year of publication, ( Korku, 1999) and References should be ordered alphabetically.

Books

The title of the book should be in italics with lowercase letters. There should be a dot at the beginning and end of the title of the book and then the detail of the publisher with initial capital letters.

e.g Topses, M.D. (2011). Niyazi Berkes’ Understanding of Sociology. Moment Publishing.

In the text, books should be referenced as  (Topses, 2011). The & symbol should be used instead of “and”. 

Edited Books

It is representation in the text is in parentheses with the year but in the Reference as follows:

Bulut, S. (2009). Evolving Towards Multinational Corporate Domination in the Media: Rupert Murdoch and Fox TV. S. Bulut (Ed.), The Media of Capital The Capital of the Media (1st Edition, pp. 75-114). Utopia Publishing.

Articles

The name of the article should be written in lowercase letters, but the Journal name should be in initial capital letters, in italics. The volume number of the Journal should be given with the issue number in parentheses and the page content at the end.

e.g. Bulut, S., & Yaylagul, L. (2004). News on the relationship between the Supreme Court and the mafia in the media in Turkey. Journal of Communication, 19(1), 119-142.

If it is in the text, it should be given as (Bulut & Yaylagül, 2004).

In DOI writing, the entire address should be provided.

e.g. https://Doi.Org/10.11114/Jets.V4i12.1869

When referencing for 3 or more people in the text, it is written as the first name and others.

e.g (Aktay and others 2017)

In the Reference, all names should be included.

Online references

For the quotation from websites, the title of the publication is written in italics. Location and URL address should be written.

e.g. Aktay, S. (2010, July 10). How does the internet work? What is the Internet? http://www.internetnedir.net/internet-nasil-calisir.html

Submission of Manuscripts

The manuscripts that are organized in accordance with the Journal rules should be submitted as two files; one including the title page only and one including the rest of the manuscript (this file should not include information about the author(s)) to the Editor by email: sadikguvenc62@hotmail.com.

Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

The Aging and Society Journal publishes both academic and non-academic original studies in gerontology. It should be noted that the articles sent to the Journal were not sent to another Journal and the copyright was transferred to the Journal. If there are conflicts of interest regarding the submitted article, it should be stated. All articles submitted to the Journal are evaluated by a double-blind peer-review process. The referees present their decisions regarding the contribution of the article to the field, whether the article is publishable or not, and the reasons for their decisions, within the time given to them by the editorial board. The editor evaluates the articles sent to the Journal in terms of journal writing rules, the importance of the study, and originality, and if he rejects the article in the first submission process, he conveys the reasons for this to the authors. The Aging and Society Journal is published by Bahadın Aging Foundation. Quotations can be made from the articles in the Journal by showing the source. All legal  liability of the articles in the Journal belong to the authors.
